This recipe was given to me by my friend Lynne. It was her Welsh grandmother's recipe. Her grandmother used to cook them on a bakingstone in Wales- hence the name.

Ingredients For bakestone cakes (welsh cakes)

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2/3 c
    shortening (not margarine)
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1
    egg
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    raisins

How To Make bakestone cakes (welsh cakes)

  • 1
    Mix together, then roll out 1/3 inch thick and cut into round shapes. Cook on each side until done in electric frying pan (or griddle if you have one!) Enjoy!
