Ingredients For basic sweet dough

  • 1 C Scalded milk
  • 1/4C Butter (or margarine)
  • 1/2C Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4C Warm water (105 – 115 F)
  • 2 pkgs Active dry yeast
  • 2 Eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 5 C Sifted flour

How To Make basic sweet dough

  • 1
    Mix milk, butter, sugar, and salt and cool to lukewarm. Pour warm water into a warm mixing bowl, sprinkle in yeast, and stir to dissolve. Add cooled mixture, eggs, and 3 cups flour and beat well. Mix in remaining flour and knead lightly on a lightly floured board until elastic. Shape into a ball, turn in a greased bowl to grease all over, cover with cloth, and let rise in a warm, draft free place until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.Dough is now ready to shape and use as individual recipes may direct. Makes 2/10” rings, or 2 loafs 9x5x3 or 4 dozen rolls.
