This is a simple but tasty recipe for breaded calamari in a deep fat fryer! I had a heck of a time tracking down a good recipe that's easy, so I wanted to share this one with everyone.

Ingredients For breaded calamari

  • 3 c
    vegetable oil (for the deep fat fryer)
  • 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    oregano
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 12-20
    squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • 1
    lemon for garnish

How To Make breaded calamari

  • 1
    Preheat oil in a heavy, deep frying pan or pot. Oil should be heated to 365º.

    In a medium mixing bowl, mix together flour, salt, oregano, and black pepper.
  • 3
    Dredge squid through flour and spice mixture.
  • 4
    Place breaded squid in oil for 2-3 minutes (I like to go for 2:30), or until light brown. Beware of overcooking, as it will be tough if overcooked.

    Dry on paper towels, serve with wedges of lemon.
