Personally, I find it better than the store-bought one. It's cheaper too. it's on the hot side, so for those who don't like spicy food, adjust the amount of cayenne pepper

Ingredients For triple-pepper oven jerky

  • 4 lb
    beef round steak, trimmed
  • 1 tsp
    freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp
    ground white pepper
  • 1 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp
    five-spice powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    smoked paprika
  • 1 Tbsp
    onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 c
    soy sauce
  • 1/2 c
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar

How To Make triple-pepper oven jerky

  • 1
    Partially freeze and then cut meat against the grain into ¼-inch thick slices. Combine remaining ingredients in a large shallow dish; add meat slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight

    Place one oven rack on the lowest level and one on the highest. Line lower rack with large baking sheet or aluminum foil. Preheat oven to 300°F.

    Drain meat from marinade and pat dry. Suspend meat slices on top rack using toothpicks. Bake for about 4 hours or until dry (pliable, but not brittle).
