I think a moist, flavorful meatball starts with a combination of ground beef and ground pork sausage. Apple butter adds some body and a bit of sweetness to the meatball sauce.

- FOR THE MEATBALLS

1 lbpork sausage

1 lbground beef

1/2 cplain dry bread crumbs

2 lgeggs, beaten

1/4 cmilk

1/2 cfinely chopped onion

1/2 tspsalt

1/2 tspblack pepper
- FOR THE APPLE BUTTER JACK SAUCE

3/4 cmustard, spicy brown

1/2 capple butter
-
1/3 cjack daniel's tennessee whiskey

1/4 cbrown sugar
-
1 Tbspcider vinegar
-
1 Tbspworcestershire sauce
-
salt and pepper to taste

tobasco sauce to taste
How To Make sweet, hot and sour mash meatballs

1To make the meatballs: Heat the oven to 375. Combine all the meatball ingredients in al large mixing bowl. Blend well with your hands.

2Form the meat mixture into 1 1/2 inch balls. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet (with sides to catch the grease), or on a jelly-roll pan.

3Bake about 30 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

4To make the Sauce: Combine all ingredients in a large skillet. Stir until well blended.

5Stir in the cooked meatballs. Coat with the sauce and cook about 5 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly. Serve with toothpicks.

6NOTE: The meatballs may be frozen and reheated at 350 for about 20 minutes.
