old fashioned nut bread
Another antique recipe which I love. The recipe asked for "sweet milk" i.e. whole milk but I know that any milk would work just fine.

Ingredients For old fashioned nut bread

1/2 cshortening

1 csugar or to taste

1 cwhole milk (non-dairy milk will work just fine)

1 tsp1 teaspoon

2 1/2 cflour
-
2 tspbaking powder

1/4 tspsalt
-
4egg whites
-
1 cchopped nuts
How To Make old fashioned nut bread

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2In a large mixing bowl cream together shortening and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt.

3Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture a little at a time, alternating with the milk.

4Add vanilla and egg whites. Combine well. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl. Fold in nuts.

5Pour into prepared bread pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in center of loaf comes out clean.

6Cool slightly in pans and then remove to cooling rack.
