This spicy Cajun cabbage is like a good Southern fried cabbage brought up a few levels. Don't be afraid of the name, the spice level can be controlled. The combination of Creole seasoning and celery seed is what makes this cabbage special. Ample amounts of savory crumbled bacon also make this side dish delicious.

Ingredients For spicy cajun cabbage

  • 10 slice
    bacon, chopped
  • 1 bunch
    green onions, chopped
  • 1 lg
    head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 c
    water
  • 2 Tbsp
    granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp
    Accent seasoning
  • 1 tsp
    whole celery seed
  • 1 tsp
    Creole seasoning, can be adjusted for spice level
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper, can be adjusted for spice level

How To Make spicy cajun cabbage

  • Cook the bacon in a pot.

    Cook bacon and set aside.
  • Cook green onions in the bacon grease.

    Cook chopped green onions in bacon grease for 4 minutes.
  • Add cabbage and water and coat the cabbage in the bacon grease.

    Add cabbage and water. Coat the cabbage with the bacon drippings.
  • Cover and cook for 15 minutes.

    Cover and cook on medium heat for 15 minutes.
  • Add spices to a small bowl.

    Mix all spices in a small bowl.
  • Add spice mixture to the cabbage.

    Add spice mixture to the cabbage. Cook for 15 more minutes or until desired doneness.
  • Add crumbled bacon on top.

    Crumble bacon on top before serving.
