Made this recipe up and have had lots of raves when I sent them to work with my husband and when we tailgated 2 weeks ago.

These are probably the simplest cinnamon-type rolls we have ever made. This is great because they're so good, you'll find excuses to make them. The dough rises quickly, so this saves lots of time. The warm cinnamon apples in the center taste so good and fill the kitchen with an aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. On top is an easy-to-prepare caramel icing that pairs well with the apple cinnamon center.

Ingredients For apple rolls with caramel topping

1 boxPillsbury hot roll mix (plus ingredients per package)

2 ccooked apples, about 6 lg apples

1 c+ 1 Tbsp granulated sugar, divided

2 Tbspbutter
-
2 tspcinnamon
-
1/4 tspground nutmeg

1 dashground cloves
-
1 dashsalt
- CARAMEL ICING
-
1 cbrown sugar
-
3/4 stickmargarine
-
1/4 cmilk
How To Make apple rolls with caramel topping

1Cook apples with 1 cup of sugar, butter, and spices ahead of time. Chill in the refrigerator or do this the day before.

2Prepare hot roll mix per package directions using 1 Tbsp sugar in the batter.

3Follow all steps to roll out in a rectangle. Spread the apple mixture on the rectangle and roll up jelly-roll style and pinch the seam to seal.

4Cut into 3/4" slices and arrange in 13x9" baking pan and another 9x9" baking pan sprayed with cooking spray. Let rise.

5Bake at 375 degrees for 15 min or less, just until they start to brown.

6Mix all ingredients for caramel frosting together. Let it come to a boil. Boil for about 3 min then let cool to lukewarm.

7Pour over apple rolls.
