Want to make a homemade apple pie? This recipe has all the classic flavors of an apple pie but is super easy to make thanks to store-bought crust. The pie is jam-packed with apples and has the perfect amount of spices. Sugar is sprinkled on top of the crust which caramelizes a little after the apple pie is baked. Yum!

Ingredients For classic apple pie
- PIE FILLING

2 lbHoney Crisp apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch thick

1 1/2 lbGranny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch thick

3/4 csugar
-
2 Tbspall-purpose flour
-
lemon zest, grated from 1 lemon

1lemon, juiced
-
1/4 tspsalt
-
1/4 tspnutmeg
-
1/4 tspcinnamon
- CRUST
-
1 pkgrefrigerated pie crusts, at room temperature

1egg white, slightly beaten
-
1 Tbspsugar
How To Make classic apple pie

1Place a rimmed baking sheet on the lowest oven rack and preheat to 500 degrees.

2Toss the apples with 3/4 cup of sugar, flour, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, and spices; set aside.

3Lightly spray a glass pie plate with non-stick spray. Unroll one of the pie crusts and place it into the pie plate making sure to center. Leave excess crust dough hanging around the edges.

4Spread the apples in the unbaked pie crust bottom, mounding them slightly in the middle.

5Unroll the second pie crust and lay it on top of the apple mixture. Seal and crimp the edges of the pie crusts.

6Cut four vent slits in the top of the pie.

7Brush top of crust with egg white and sprinkle with 1 Tbsp sugar.

8Place pie on a baking sheet and reduce oven temp to 425. Bake until the top is golden, about 25 minutes. Rotate the baking sheet and reduce oven temp to 375. Continue to bake until the juices are bubbling and the crust is a deep golden brown - 30 to 35 minutes longer.

9Transfer the pie to a wire rack and cool to room temperature before serving.
