This is one of my top three cabbage recipes. It's healthy and so good.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

A super comforting and easy soup to throw together. The sausage adds a wonderful smoky flavor and richness. Cabbage, carrots, and potatoes are basic ingredients but add a lot of heartiness and flavor. A lazy meal on a cold day when you don't feel like cooking.

Ingredients For cabbage and sausage soup

  • 1 can
    crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 1 can
    diced tomatoes (15 oz)
  • 1
    cabbage, chopped into bite-size pieces
  • 32 oz
    beef broth
  • 4
    carrots, sliced
  • 1 md
    white onion, chopped
  • 4 md
    potatoes, quartered
  • 1 pkg
    smoked sausage, sliced (14 oz)
  • water, as needed

To get it started, we added a couple of cups of water. Once everything was done, we added a little more water to get the soupy consistency. Also, salt and pepper to your taste.
  • Ingredients added to a Dutch oven.

    Add all the ingredients to a large pot or Dutch oven, stir, and bring to a simmer.
  • Cooking until potatoes and carrots are tender.

    Cook until the carrots and potatoes are just fork tender, about 1 hour, adding water as needed.
