The series follows fraternal twins Kate and Kevin and their adopted brother Randall (there’s quite the plot twist there) as they turn 36. Each episode weaves between present day and flashbacks to the siblings growing up with their parents in Pittsburgh, PA.

2. The Crown

The Crown traces the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The first season begins with the marriage of Elizabeth and Prince Philip. It moves on to the death of her father George VI and follows Elizabeth ascension to the throne. Flashbacks give the viewer a glimpse into her blissful childhood and a bit of insight into what shaped her into the queen she is today.

3. Scandal
Break out your largest glass and fill it with red wine, Scandal makes its eagerly anticipated return to TGIT Thursday, January 18. Who will the next president of the United States be? Will expert fixer Olivia Pope have her hand in the elections?
Taking place in Washington, DC, Scandal centers on crisis management firm owner Olivia Pope, along with the staff at the White House. Olivia “fixes” many of the problems of the DC elite along with influential government employees, like the President. Olivia lives and breathes her job and keeps the secrets of those who hire her… with a few secrets of her own.

4. Outlander
Time travel, Scottish history, a love story and men in kilts… there’s something for everyone on Outlander.
Based on the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander focuses on Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who mysteriously finds herself transported from 1945 to 1973 Scotland. She is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a Scottish Highlander. We follow Claire’s struggles of being torn between the world she knows and is comfortable in, with the desire to stay with her husband in an unknown era.

5. Victoria
PBS’s beloved Masterpiece, America’s longest-running weekly prime time drama series, presents their latest program Victoria.
Victoria, a diminutive, neglected teenager becomes Queen of England and eventually the most powerful woman in the world. The series follows Victoria from when, at 18, she comes Queen in 1837 through her courtship and ultimate marriage to Prince Albert.
