If you are waiting for peach season’s arrival every year, this week’s Janet’s Notebook is for you. I’m sharing Blue Ribbon dessert recipes made with fresh peaches. These five fresh peach treats are filled with flavor and are easy to make.
“Fluffy, soft, moist, and loaded with fresh peaches… Delicious Fresh Peach Fritters,” is how Bunny (Sunbury, PA) describes her recipe.
These peach fritters are loaded with bits of peach and made with ingredients that are probably in your pantry. If you have fresh peaches just about to go bad use them for these fritters.
On their own, they are not overly sweet. I opted to use Bunny’s glaze, and the drizzle adds a nice touch of sweetness. Bunny suggests rolling them in sugar, which is a delicious option too.
“I saw a similar recipe in the newspaper using apricots and decided to try something similar with peaches, which I love,” explains Marcia Paholski (The Villages, FL). “Everyone who tried it thought it was great!”
Marcia’s Peach and Almond Galette is a treat for brunch, afternoon company, or an impressive dessert. As pretty as this galette is, it’s not difficult to put together.
A galette is made with a crust base that’s filled and then the edges are folded in over the filling.
In the center of a store-bought crust is a mound of sugared sliced peaches that are dotted with butter. Sugar and almonds are sprinkled over the crust. They caramelize and toast while baking. Yum!
“As a child, I loved Grandma’s pies,” reveals Linda Smith (Oelwein, IA). Linda shared her Grandma’s Fresh Peach Pie that’s perfect for summer.
The mixture of fresh peaches and a hint of almond extract almost add a light cherry flavor to this peach pie. A double crust bakes to golden brown and holds in all the juicy fresh peaches.
To add more peach flavor, serve the pie with Kay Skipper’s (Brandon, MS) Creamy Peach Ice Cream.
“Growing up on a little English island in the Western Caribbean, I remember going to town every Saturday night to buy this yummy peach ice cream cone for 5 cents,” shares Kay. “This recipe is tried and true, dating as far back as the mid-1850s or possibly further back.”
Nice and creamy, this peach ice cream is a lovely treat. This is an old-fashioned recipe. Nowadays, electric ice cream makers make it easy to whip up a batch of homemade ice cream.
This version has a condensed and evaporated milk base rather than a custard. The final product is rich with bits of fresh peaches in every spoonful.
A classic peach dessert is a cobbler, and Patsy Fowler (Anderson, SC) shared her delicious Southern Peach Cobbler recipe.
“This is one of the best fresh peach cobblers,” thinks Patsy. “There is nothing better.”
The filling is full of sweet juicy peaches and has a slight spice from the nutmeg and cinnamon.
On top is a fluffy and sugary crisp crust. There is a lot of crust on top of the fruit. So, if you prefer lots of crust to fruit, this cobbler is for you.
