After opening presents, my family tradition is to eat a heartier breakfast. It holds us until the main meal later in the day and allows us to spend quality time together before the craziness of the day sets in. While the breakfast I serve is nicer than traditional mornings, I still need it to be easy. If you like to make something special for your family too, here are some easy Christmas breakfast ideas.
“I used to make this on special occasions, you know like weekends,” jokes Tari Harlan (Poland, IN). “My girls loved it.”
Tari’s Momma Mia’s Saturday Breakfast Casserole is a quick and easy breakfast casserole for Christmas morning everyone will enjoy.
Bell pepper, onions, and sausage add a lot of flavors to the dish. This casserole combines everything you love about breakfast. The cornbread is a great vessel for all the yumminess!
Your family will go crazy for Virginia Duncan’s (Decatur, AR) Gingerbread Waffles.
“Warm gingerbread in the morning, yum,” says Virginia.
They’re light, airy, and slightly crisp on the outside. You taste the ginger flavor, but it’s less sweet than a piece of gingerbread. All the flavors of Christmas in every bite.
Cinnamon rolls are a Christmas breakfast tradition in my family. If they are for you, too, and you’re looking for a new recipe, try Kim Kelemen’s (Cuba, MO). Her Sinful Cinnamon Rolls are sinful.
“They have a lot of cinnamon and a lot of brown sugar, they just melt in your mouth,” reveals Kim. “They are best warm.”
The balance of cinnamon and sugar is spot on in the filling. Once baked, they’re soft and fluffy. On top is a creamy icing with a hint of vanilla and butter. So good!
Since the yeast dough does need time to rise, prep, and assemble these the night before. On Christmas morning, just pop them in the oven to bake.
Another prep-ahead recipe is Victoria Ross’ (North Beach, MD) Christmas Morning French Toast.
“This does require an overnight soak in the fridge,” explains Victoria. “It’s a special treat that my kids look forward to.”
Rich and decadent, this French toast casserole recipe needs to be saved for special occasions. The praline topping is what sets this apart.
The texture is almost like a rich bread pudding. But, since the slices are intact, it is truly French toast. I drizzled a little syrup on it but, honestly, it was delicious plain too.
If you’re not a big breakfast family, but still want to serve something different, try Tere G.’s Brunch Brie Biscuits (Two Ways).
“They’re buttery, flaky biscuits, filled with melted Brie or Camembert cheese and sweet berry jam or pepper jelly,” shares Tere. “Perfect for brunch or breakfast for holiday guests because they’re so quick and easy to prepare.”
Filled with warm savory Brie and perfectly sweet jam, these biscuits are divine. My favorite was the pepper jelly, but use whatever jam or jelly your family likes.
Alternating red jam and green pepper jelly make for a pretty Christmas presentation. These are so good, though, you’ll be making them year-round.
This Christmas, whether you’re looking for something heavy or light, I encourage you to start your holiday with one of these easy Christmas breakfast ideas. Is there a breakfast tradition you have in your family? Share a link to the recipe, I’d love to see it. Happy Pinching!
