Next up in our Pinterest Pass or Fail series is this adorable Chocolate Pretzel Snowman Craft from Hungry Happenings. In the Test Kitchen, we love a salty and sweet treat, so these sounded yummy (and they were adorable). But would we be able to recreate Beth’s recipe? We gathered the supplies and began crafting.
Gather the Ingredients
- 2 oz orange candy melts, like Wilton
- 1 bag dipping sticks pretzels
- 16 oz vanilla candy coating
- 8 oz chocolate candy coating
- 24 snowflake sprinkles
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Piping bag and round tip
To Make Chocolate Pretzel Snowmen
Melt orange candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals and stir until melted. Place candy melts in a piping bag fitted with a round tip. Pipe the melted candy into a carrot shape on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Place carrots in the freezer for about 2 minutes. Then, remove carrots from the parchment paper and set aside.
Melt white candy coating, 30 seconds at a time, in a microwave-safe dish until melted. Stir after every 30 seconds. Dip 3/4 of the pretzel into the white chocolate.
Place dipped pretzel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Dip four more pretzels in white chocolate, leaving the top of the pretzel uncovered. Place the pretzels next to the first pretzel (for a total of five pretzels). Follow this process to make additional pretzel brooms.
Once pretzels are dipped, place the baking sheet in the freezer for 3-5 minutes or until the chocolate sets.
Melt the chocolate candy coating in a microwave until melted. Take the uncoated side of the pretzels and dip into the chocolate candy.
Place dipped pretzels on a baking sheet.
Take a whole pretzel and dip into the melted chocolate.
Place the pretzel across the snowman to create the hat’s brim. Set in the freezer to harden.
Using a dab of melted orange candy melt, attach the carrot to the snowman’s face.
Using a dab of white melted chocolate candy, affix the white snowflake on the hat. Using the melted chocolate, create the mouth and eyes.
The Results
These were definitely a Pinterest pass! They’d be cute on a Christmas candy tray or make an adorable holiday housewarming gift. The snowmen do take a little effort to make, but the sweet and salty combination is fantastic and worth the time. Kids and adults are going to have a hard time resisting these.
Test Kitchen Tips
- Beth used Snyder’s Dipping Pretzels. If you have a hard time finding them at your grocery store (like we did), look for a thicker stick pretzel.
- To speed up the dipping process when making the broom, try dipping two pretzels at one time.
- We found it easiest to have the pretzels we wanted to use ready to go. Make sure to not use any that have a bend in them or they won’t stick together.
