We’re always on the hunt for adorable desserts. And Jill Mills of Kitchenfunwithmy3sons.com came up with darling Rice Krispies Turkey Legs. Immediately we thought of Thanksgiving dessert. This is a treat that everyone will love and kids (with adult supervision) could help make. We headed to the market to pick up the 5 ingredients and got to work.

Gather the Ingredients

  • 8 cups crisped rice cereal
  • 6 pretzel rods
  • 1 bag white candy melts, like Wilton
  • 1 bag mini-marshmallows, 10 oz. (reserve 24 marshmallows)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

To Make Rice Krispies Turkey Legs

Break the pretzel rods in half. Put the candy melts into a microwave save bowl. Melt at 40% power for 1 minute. Stir. Put back into microwave and melt in 30 second intervals until melted.

Dip the tip of the pretzel into the melted white chocolate.

Place two marshmallows onto end of the white chocolate dipped pretzel. Push slightly to make sure marshmallows adhere to the chocolate. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet to set for 5 minutes.

Dip the pretzel rods back into the white chocolate coating nearly the entire pretzel half.

To make the crisped rice treats, melt the rest of the marshmallows and the butter in a large microwave safe bowl for 1 minute. Stir until marshmallows and butter are combined. Add in the cereal. Mix until cereal is completely coated.

Take handfuls of the cereal and shape into 12 balls.

Take a ball and push it into the uncoated side of the pretzel. Form it into a turkey leg shape.

Test Kitchen Tips

  • The Rice Krispies will be a bit sticky when you first mix them with the melted marshmallows. It’s better to let the mixture sit a few minutes and then roll into individual balls.
  • Spray your hands with non-stick spray to help the mixture not stick to your hands.
  • The “drumstick” may want to come off the pretzel rod. If you’re having this issue, poke a hole into the cereal ball with the pretzel rod. Then add a little drizzle of melted white chocolate into the hole. The rod will “glue” to the ball stay put.
