My mother-in-law Nellie from Indiana,showed mme how to cook fried tomatoes when I was first married in 1949.
I have tried other recipes...but these are the BEST.
Thank you mom, for all your farm recipes.

Ingredients For fried green tomatoes a 1949 recipe

2-3green tomatoes
-
1 canundiluted evaporated milk
-
quick cooking rolled oats
-
salt & pepper
-
oil for cooking....( she used bacon grease)
How To Make fried green tomatoes a 1949 recipe

1Wash and slice the firm green tomatoes, about 1/2 inch thick.
Dip slices into milk, rub oats with your hands to make them fine.
(take your ring off, and have clean nails!) -
2FRY slowly in the hot oil untill
lightly browned and tender.
Turn only once.
Drain on a paper towel, salt & pepper..
