I made this in a trifle dish for a potluck at work. There was nothing left to take home, every morsal was eaten. It was a huge hit. When making in a trifle dish double all ingredients. Making 2 cake loaves.

Ingredients For bananas foster trifle

  • CAKE
  • 3/4 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 - 3 oz pkg
    cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3 lg
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark rum
  • CREAMY VANILLA FILLING
  • 1 - 3 oz pkg
    vanilla instant pudding
  • 1 c
    heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • 1/4 c
    powdered sugar
  • CARAMEL TOPPING
  • 1 c
    caramel ice cream topping
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark rum

How To Make bananas foster trifle

    Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 10 inch loaf pan.

    Cake: In a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed until creamy. Add sugar, beat until fluffy, add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.

    In a small bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating until combined. Stir in rum. Spoon batter into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 30 - 45 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan, and cool completely on wire rack. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

    Caramel Topping: In a small bowl, combine caramel topping and rum. Set aside.

    Creamy Vanilla Filling: In a medium bowl, combine pudding mix, cream, milk, sour cream, and powdered sugar. Beat with electric mixer at medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Cover, and cool for up to 2 days.

    Assembly: In martini glasses, layer cake cubes, creamy vanilla filling, and caramel mixture, as desired. Serve immediately.
