My Dr was recently extolling the virtues of rye bread for the diabetic. More fiber and the lowest glycemic index of any bread. This recipe makes a small 1 lb loaf. Baking time is however long it takes your machine. I always use my bread maker to make the dough and then bake in the oven as I really dislike the holes it leaves in the bottom. My standard bread baking is 350 degrees until the loaf is nicely browned and sounds hollow when lightly thumped.

Ingredients For russian rye bread for the bread machine

  • 1/2 c
    warm water, plus 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark honey
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 1/2 c
    bread flour
  • 3/4 c
    rye flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    caraway seeds
  • 1 1/4 tsp
    active dry yeast

How To Make russian rye bread for the bread machine

    Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer.
